Pureology Smooth Gloss Shampoo is a sulfate-free smoothing shampoo for frizz-prone, color-treated hair, and the cleansing step of Pureology's Smooth Gloss system. It works up a rich lather, cleans without stripping, and leaves the hair surface smoother, softer and easier to manage, with more gloss once it's dry.

The formula is built around three amino acids that Pureology picked for their link to the protein structure of silk: alanine to help repel excess moisture, serine to help attract and hold moisture, and glycine to help create a smoother, more even surface. Pureology's Antifade Complex helps keep color vibrant between salon visits.

Used together with the Smooth Gloss Treatment Mask and Silkmorphose Spray, Pureology reports up to 72 hours of frizz control in 90% humidity, 8x smoother strands and 50% glossier shine compared with a non-conditioning shampoo. Pureology presents Smooth Gloss as the successor to its Smooth Perfection line.

Color-treated hair that frizzes: hair that puffs up in humid weather, feels rough, or takes a lot of work to blow-dry smooth. Pureology lists it for all color-treated hair types prone to frizz, so it suits wavy, curly and coily hair as well as straight hair that turns fuzzy.

Frizz-prone hair that is also colored has two problems at once: a raised, rough cuticle that grabs moisture from the air, and a color that fades faster every time a harsh shampoo strips it. Smooth Gloss Shampoo tackles both in the first step of the routine. Its sulfate-free base cleans gently, the silk-inspired amino acids and conditioning polymers start smoothing the surface while you lather, and the Antifade Complex is there to protect the color you paid for.

It is also the foundation for the rest of the Smooth Gloss system. Pureology's frizz and shine results come from the shampoo, Treatment Mask and Silkmorphose Spray used together, so starting with this shampoo gives the mask and spray a clean, smooth base to work on.

  • Lather and work through to the ends, then rinse well.
  • Follow with Smooth Gloss Treatment Mask, then Smooth Gloss Silkmorphose Spray on damp hair before blow-drying.
