Amika Big Hit Volumizing Shampoo is a lightweight, root-lifting shampoo formulated for fine to medium hair (roughly texture 1 to 3a) that falls flat or loses shape over the course of a day. Instead of a harsher classic sulfate, the cleansing base uses sodium C14-16 olefin sulfonate and cocamidopropyl betaine, paired with caffeine, biotin and niacinamide plus phospholipids and sea buckthorn fruit and seed oil for antioxidant, fatty-acid support.
Amika's own product information credits the caffeine in the formula with helping energize limp strands and support the scalp's natural oil balance, while glycerin and butylene glycol work to keep hair from drying out even as volume increases, the idea being lift at the root without the trade-off of straw-like ends that some volumizing shampoos cause. The formula also includes a trio of conditioning polymers (Polyquaternium-7, -10 and -16) meant to add light body without heavy silicones weighing hair back down.
