Unlike a leave-in conditioner or anti-frizz serum that sits on the hair and washes out the next time you shampoo, Dream Coat's polymer complex is designed to bond to the hair shaft during the blow-dry itself, so the anti-humidity effect is meant to carry over several washes rather than being a single-use styling product.

Shampoo and condition as usual, then towel-dry hair until it's damp rather than dripping wet. Divide the hair into sections and spray each section thoroughly — covering the top of the section as well as underneath — until fully saturated; don't apply it to dry hair. Comb through each section to distribute the product evenly. Blow-dry section by section, using a brush to hold the hair taut for tension, at medium-to-high heat, drying each section completely before moving to the next, since the heat is what activates the polymer. The effect generally lasts about 3–4 shampoos, so it doesn't need to be reapplied with every wash.

The genuine advantage here is mechanism-based: because the polymer complex sets onto the hair shaft during blow-drying rather than simply rinsing off or evaporating, the anti-frizz effect persists across multiple washes instead of needing reapplication every time you wash your hair. The tradeoff is that it only works with a specific routine — damp hair, full saturation, and a proper heat-and-tension blow-dry — so it won't help if you air-dry or apply it to dry hair. It also contains synthetic silicones, which rules it out for anyone deliberately avoiding silicones in their hair care, and because it needs to be applied section by section and blow-dried thoroughly, it adds real time to a styling routine versus a quick leave-in spray.
