This is a professional tourmaline-and-ceramic barrel curling iron from BaBylissPRO, sold in a range of barrel sizes from 5/8" (16mm) up to 1-1/2" (38mm). The tourmaline-infused ceramic barrel is designed to emit far-infrared heat and negative ions for more even heat distribution and reduced static and frizz compared to a plain metal barrel.

It heats up to 401°F (205°C) across 40 incremental heat settings controlled by a push-button dial, so temperature can be dialed in more precisely than a curling iron with only a few fixed presets. The handle is a slim, rubberized soft-grip design with a rotating, lockable swivel cord, and the barrel has an integrated stand with a cool tip for safer handling and countertop rest between sections. It runs on dual voltage for international use and is backed by a 2-year limited warranty.

  • Tourmaline and ceramic barrel, available in 5/8" to 1-1/2" sizes
  • 40 heat settings up to 401°F (205°C), push-button dial
  • Dual voltage, extra-long swivel cord
  • Integrated stand with cool tip
  • 2-year limited warranty

Suited to professional stylists and experienced at-home users who want fine control over curl size (via barrel selection) and heat level (via the 40-setting dial), across fine, normal, or coarse hair. Because it runs as hot as 401°F with no automatic shutoff, it's less suited to a first-time curling-iron user who isn't comfortable managing heat exposure and timing themselves.

The tourmaline-ceramic barrel's main advantage over a plain ceramic or metal barrel is the negative-ion output, which is what actually reduces static and frizz during curling rather than the ceramic coating alone. Combined with 40 distinct heat settings instead of a handful of presets, it gives more control over both curl pattern (via barrel size) and heat exposure (via the dial) than a simpler single-barrel, single-temperature curling iron.

  • Plug in and choose a barrel-appropriate temperature using the push-button dial — lower settings for fine, fragile, or color-treated hair, higher settings for coarse or hard-to-curl hair.
  • Allow the iron to reach temperature before use.
  • Take a clean, dry or heat-protected section of hair no wider than the barrel, wrap it around the barrel starting near the roots and working toward the ends, avoiding contact with the cool tip.
  • Hold for a few seconds depending on hair texture and desired curl tightness, then release.
  • Use the integrated stand to rest the iron safely between sections rather than setting it on a flat surface, and don't leave it unattended since it has no automatic shutoff.

Pros:

  • 40 heat settings allow much finer temperature control than irons with only 2-3 fixed heat levels
  • Available across five barrel sizes so the same design suits tight curls through loose waves
  • Cool tip and integrated stand make it easier to hold and set down safely mid-use
  • Dual voltage makes it usable while traveling internationally

Cons:

  • Maximum 401°F is hot enough to damage fine, thin, or color-treated hair if the wrong setting is used, and there's no auto shutoff to fall back on if left on accidentally
  • Temperature is set via an analog push-button dial rather than a digital readout, so the exact degree isn't displayed
  • Barrel size is fixed per unit (sold as separate size variants), so the wrong size purchased means buying a second unit rather than swapping an attachment
