The Paul Mitchell Neuro Unclipped is a clipless curling wand — a titanium-barrel heat styling tool with no spring clamp, so hair is wrapped by hand directly around the barrel instead of being closed inside a clip.
The barrel is offered in two shapes for different curl types: a 1" rod with a consistent one-inch diameter for beach waves and loose curls, and a 1.25" cone that tapers toward the tip for a more natural, graduated curl. The titanium surface is designed to heat evenly and reach up to 450°F within seconds, and a SmartSense microchip continuously monitors barrel temperature so heat stays consistent through repeated sections rather than dipping and slowly recovering the way a basic single-thermostat iron can. A cool tip at the end of the barrel gives you a place to hold or brace the wrap without touching the hot surface.
Because there's no clamp, technique matters more than with a clip-style curling iron: you wrap the strand around the barrel by hand, choosing whether to wrap over the barrel for more of a wave pattern or under it for more bounce and lift, and whether to start the wrap at the scalp for curl from root to end or at mid-shaft for curl on the ends only. Smaller sections give tighter curls; larger sections give looser waves. This hands-on control over curl tension and direction mid-section is part of why some stylists prefer a clipless wand over a clamped iron.
Other features include a customizable auto shut-off that can be set for up to 120 minutes, and automatic dual voltage (110–240V) so it can be used internationally with the correct plug adapter.
