K-Pak Cuticle Sealer is a rinse-out, pH-neutralizing treatment used as the second step of Joico's four-step K-Pak Hair Repair System, applied after K-Pak Clarifying Shampoo and before K-Pak Deep Penetrating Reconstructor. Chemical services such as color, lightening, perming, and relaxing raise hair's pH and leave the cuticle lifted; this treatment brings hair back down to its natural acidic range of 4.5–5.5, which closes and smooths the cuticle and helps lock in curl pattern and color.
The formula is built on a complex of hydrolyzed keratin and several synthetic cysteine- and arginine-based peptides (Pentapeptide-29/30 Cysteinamide, Tetrapeptide-28/29 Argininamide) designed to bind to damaged areas of the hair shaft, along with jojoba seed oil and tocopheryl acetate (vitamin E) for conditioning. Methylparaben and propylparaben are included as preservatives.
After shampooing with K-Pak Clarifying Shampoo, rinse and towel-blot hair, then distribute the Cuticle Sealer through the hair and leave on for five minutes. Rinse and towel-blot again before applying K-Pak Reconstructor. It is a leave-on-and-rinse step, not a leave-in product, and is intended for use immediately following a chemical service rather than as routine daily conditioning.
