It's built around a magnetic motor and a dedicated fade blade specifically for the close, even transitions fades and tapers require, with a taper lever that adjusts cutting depth mid-cut rather than forcing a barber to change guide combs every time the line needs to shift — that combination is the real reason it's positioned for barbershop use rather than as a general-purpose trimmer.

With the clipper off, apply a drop of the included lubricating oil across the blade and wipe off the excess with a dry cloth before plugging in and switching it on. To attach a guide comb, make sure the clipper is off, then slide the comb onto the front of the blade and press it down and back until it locks over the rear of the blade set; to remove it, lift the back edge up and pull it away from the blade. The taper lever near the thumb adjusts cutting closeness during use — push it up for a closer cut, down for a longer one — and cycling it back and forth a few times while the clipper is running helps clear packed-in hair from the blade. After each use, turn the clipper off, brush hair debris out of the blade with the included cleaning brush, wipe the housing with a dry cloth, and apply a fresh drop of oil to the blade before covering it with the guard to prevent rust. If the blade is ever removed for cleaning or replacement, realign it so the top edge of the cutting comb sits roughly 1/32" to 1/16" above the cutter, with the left tooth of the cutting comb even with or left of the cutter's first tooth, before retightening the screws.
